Any and all gamefish will target leeches when present, and like it or not… they are always present. Trout, Smallmouth, largemouth, panfish, carp, there are LOTS of species on the table when it comes to fishing still and moving waters with leeches.
Balanced Leeches are designed to hang horizontally when fished below an indicator. Wind provides action to the fly, but you can also supply action to the fly with movement. The fly is simple to tie, yet absolutely deadly at times. I sometimes tie these two different ways – one as pictured above and another where I add a mono loop to the top of the hook (or underbelly when fished as extended) so that I can hang another fly about 16” to 18” below it.
